Why We Love Craftsman Style Homes
You may have spotted how prevalent the affect of the Craftsmen style is on TV programming?  It says a lot for the charisma of the evocative architectural style.  A was perhaps the real star of You, Me and Dupree, and Buffy the Vampire Slayer lived in one too.  You can live in one as well ...
From a film standpoint,
Craftsmen homes are ideal; being wide and flat (usually on one level or a low-set second story), restrained and yet impressive, with a inviting front entrance quite often given a feeling of grandeur by the stairs leading up to it.  Because these properties are aged, they also tend to have plenty of plants to frame the house.
Inside, the Craftsman style house features a good background too, with distinctive millwork, property furniture and bookcases.
With it's origins in California, you might argue that the prevalence of Craftsman real estate in the Hollywood community has had a influence, but there's little doubt that this influential home style and unpretentious luxury has transcended the established 1-1½ storey residence and helped to shape many an American household.
As the ornamentation characteristic of 19th Century Victorian-era buildings of the prosperous started to look rather excessive, and industrialization was deemed as mass-producing inferior goods, a more harmonic direction of architecture was established that stimulated simple insightful design.
It was "organic" property design, a long time before that term even existed, with it's focal point on natural and native materials (in particular lumber and stone), a pure and rustic look that blends in with and harmonizes with the immediate landscape, and they were typically purchased as a pre cut bundle to be constructed by local workcrews.
These were buildings built by talented craftsmen, with an emphasis on being practical, rather than luxuriant, and is seen a mark of family beliefs and the dreams of the working man to establish a much better life for his family to live in comfort.
